The Additional District Magistrate-cum-Adjudicating Officer of North Goa has penalized multiple food business operators for violating food safety regulations.
Fines for Adulterated Gin and Whiskey
Authorities fined gin sellers ₹50,000 each for using erythrosine, a synthetic colourant banned under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011. Additionally, a distillery in Cuncolim Industrial Estate received a ₹50,000 penalty for selling cinnamon-flavoured whiskey that did not meet the Food Safety & Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Regulations.
Action Against Poor-Quality Jaggery
Food safety officers also penalized seven traders ₹3,000 each for selling substandard jaggery and illegally adding synthetic food colours. The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Goa, conducted inspections on food business and initiated legal action based on cases filed by Food Safety Officer Darlane Diukar.
