Crackdown on Unsanitary Food Vendors in Mohali

Overview

In a campaign targeting food vendors using spoiled and inferior ingredients, the Food Safety Teams in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district in Mohali have collected 15 samples and issued five challans over the last three days, according to Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal. Mittal explained that after officials discovered decayed vegetables and poor hygiene in the kitchens of vendors selling Chinese fast food in the Mataur region, they instructed the Food Safety Teams to ramp up inspections and enforce stricter measures against these vendors.

40 Kg of Spoiled Food Disposed of

During the inspections, the teams disposed of approximately 40 kg of spoiled vegetables, outdated noodles, and inferior sauces to prevent their consumption. Additionally, the Food Safety Teams have been directed to monitor the transport of chicken, milk, and other food products through random checkpoints. Mittal warned that food vendors caught cooking in dirty or unsanitary environments with low-quality or spoiled ingredients would face severe legal consequences.

Recent Inspections in Kharar, Mataur, and Zirakpur

District Health Officer Dr. Amrit Warring provided details about the recent inspections. In Kharar, the team checked four food establishments and collected four samples. In Mataur, they gathered three samples of momos and other food items, fining two vendors for unsatisfactory hygiene. In Zirakpur, the team collected three samples during evening inspections and inspected vehicles transporting chicken into the city. On Friday, the team collected three additional samples of momos and spring rolls in Kurali and penalized two food vendors for working in unsanitary conditions. They also confiscated and disposed of seven kilograms of spoiled vegetables and five kilograms of old noodles.

Public Awareness and Ongoing Inspections

Dr. Warring urged the public to remain vigilant about food quality when buying from roadside vendors or restaurants. He emphasized the need for vendors to maintain strict hygiene and sanitation standards in their kitchens. Regular inspections will continue to ensure compliance and safeguard public health.
