Key Update
The Delhi Food Safety Department seized and destroyed around 7,000 kg of unhygienic and foul-smelling khoya during an inspection at Mori Gate Khoya Market on November 3, 2026. The latest seizure brings the total khoya destroyed by the department so far to 10,660 kg, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Chief Minister Warns Against Food Adulteration
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government would not compromise on public health and that ensuring access to safe and quality food during the festive season remained a top priority. She warned that anyone involved in food adulteration would face strict legal action, regardless of their influence.
35 of 44 Khoya Samples Fail Preliminary Tests
During the inspection, officials tested 44 khoya samples using the ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ mobile testing facility. Preliminary tests found that 35 samples failed to meet the required standards. Officials also collected two additional samples and sent them to a laboratory for detailed examination. The preliminary tests also raised concerns about the presence of milk powder, vanaspati and binding agents in the suspected adulterated material. The department has sent samples for further investigation to determine the nature and extent of the suspected adulteration.
Delhi Intensifies Festive Season Food Safety Checks
The department has intensified its inspections as part of a wider crackdown on food adulteration ahead of the festive season. Previous drives destroyed 2,830 kg of khoya on September 4, 610 kg on September 8, and 520 kg on October 23, according to the CMO.
