Food Poisoning Strikes at Religious Function in Rajasthan, Leaving 300 Ill

Key Update

Around 300 people reportedly fell ill after consuming food served at a religious gathering in the Mandawar area of Pakhar village in Rajasthan’s Dausa district. The food poisoning incident prompted health authorities to launch a large-scale medical response as attendees developed symptoms consistent with foodborne illness.

Hundreds Develop Symptoms After Community Meal

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr. Subhash Bilonia said the affected individuals developed stomach pain, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal symptoms shortly after consuming food at the religious gathering. Medical teams provided immediate assistance and transported the patients to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment.

Most Patients Discharged After Receiving First Aid

Doctors treated the affected individuals at hospitals and health centres in Mandawar, Mahua, Dausa, and nearby areas. Most patients responded well to treatment and returned home after receiving first aid, health officials said. However, 15 people remain in hospital, where doctors continue to monitor and treat them. Officials reported that all hospitalised patients are in stable condition.

Authorities Investigate Cause of Food Poisoning

Health authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the suspected foodborne illness. Officials will examine food samples and inspect food preparation and hygiene practices at the event to identify the source of contamination.

Harmful bacteria, viruses, or toxins can contaminate food and cause foodborne illnesses. Unsafe food handling and poor hygiene during preparation can also increase the risk of contamination. Health officials emphasise that prompt medical treatment and a thorough investigation are essential to prevent further cases.
