Major Crackdown on Fake Bottled Water
Food safety officials raided the K2 King Aqua and Beverages plant in Kachiguda, Hyderabad on Thursday, November 14, 2024, and seized over 19,000 bottles of water that violated Food Safety and Standards (FSS) norms. The authorities acted on information about the company’s failure to meet water quality standards.
TDS Levels Fall Below Safety Standards in Bottled Water
During the inspection, officials found that the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels in the bottled water were lower than the FSS-required minimum of 75 mg/L, indicating inadequate mineral content. Officials also discovered that K2 King Aqua was packaging water in bottles resembling those of well-known mineral water brands, misleading consumers into purchasing impure water. The officials seized 5,400 litres of Brislehri in 1-litre bottles, 6,108 litres of Brislehri in 500ml bottles, 1,172 litres of Kelvey in 1-litre bottles, 6,480 litres of Kelvey in 500ml bottles, and 108 litres of Nature’s Pure in 500ml bottles.
Plant Sealed, Legal Action Looms
They sealed the plant and announced that they would take further action under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act. The raid highlights ongoing efforts to protect consumer safety and hold violators accountable in the packaged food and beverage sector.
