PVR Inox Kanpur Raid: Expired Chicken, Fake Expiry Stickers Found

Report

The Food Safety Department recently raided PVR Inox at Z Square Mall in Kanpur and uncovered several violations of food safety standards. Officials discovered that someone had replaced the original expiry date stickers on expired food and was selling it. They identified expired chicken patties and bread, as well as plant-based chicken patties priced at ₹195, which had its expiry date concealed by a sticker. When the officials removed the sticker, they found that the product had expired on August 18, 2024, yet it was still on sale to customers.

Hygiene Concerns in the Kitchen

The inspection also revealed a cockroach infestation in the kitchen, raising serious concerns about the establishment’s hygiene and cleanliness, which violated basic food safety standards.

Immediate Action by Authorities

The Food Safety Department seized expired food items and products with altered expiry dates and new price labels. They also collected samples of paneer, tandoori spread, and soybean oil for further testing. These actions support the department’s ongoing efforts to maintain food safety in Kanpur. As part of a broader initiative to ensure food safety across the city, the department has conducted similar inspections at Bada Chauraha, Azad Nagar, and Vishal Mega Mart. The department has sent samples of sabudana, peanuts, kutta atta, and dal makhani for laboratory analysis.

Strong Response from the Assistant Food Commissioner

Assistant Food Commissioner Sanjay Pratap Singh strongly condemned the practice of altering the expiry date on food products, calling it a serious violation. He confirmed that the department issued a notice to the cinema for an explanation and assured the public that the department would conduct further inspections at other cinema halls to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

This raid highlights the critical importance of food safety and hygiene, with authorities committed to taking swift action against any violations that endanger public health.
