FSSAI Seizes 15,000 Kg Suspected Adulterated Honey in UP

Significant Update

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) seized around 15,000 kilograms of suspected adulterated honey during a major enforcement drive in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh. Officials estimated the value of the seized stock at nearly ₹22 lakh. Food safety officers carried out the raid as part of ongoing efforts to curb food adulteration and strengthen food safety monitoring across the state.

Samples Sent for Laboratory Testing

During the inspection, officials examined large containers filled with honey and collected samples for laboratory analysis. Authorities will test the samples to verify whether the product complies with prescribed food safety standards. Officials stated that they would initiate strict legal action if the laboratory reports confirm adulteration or non-compliance.

Honey Adulteration Remains a Food Safety Concern

Honey adulteration remains a major concern in India. Manufacturers and traders sometimes mix honey with sugar syrup, rice syrup, glucose syrup, or other sweeteners to increase quantity and reduce production costs. Such practices can lower the nutritional quality of honey and may pose health risks to consumers, especially people with diabetes and other health conditions.

Enforcement Drives Intensify Across Uttar Pradesh

The latest seizure highlights the intensified food safety enforcement activities taking place across Uttar Pradesh. In recent weeks, authorities have conducted multiple inspections and raids targeting adulterated and substandard food products, including dairy items and paneer. FSSAI and state food safety departments continue to urge consumers to purchase food products from reliable sources and remain alert about possible adulteration.
