Kerala’s Statewide Chicken Dish Safety Inspections

Report

In response to complaints about the excessive use of artificial colours in chicken dishes, the Food Safety Department conducted state-wide inspections. These checks focused on restaurants selling dishes such as Al Faham, Tandoori Chicken, Grilled Chicken, and Shawarma. The inspections, led by a special task force formed by the state government, aimed to ensure food safety and address consumer concerns.

Rigorous Inspections of Chicken Dishes Across Kerala

The task force conducted inspections across 448 establishments with 35 squads deployed statewide. They collected 75 statutory samples and 19 surveillance samples for further testing. Based on the results, authorities will take strong follow-up actions. They shut down the operations of 15 establishments found to be violating food safety standards.

Ongoing Inspections and Regulatory Actions

In addition, 49 establishments received rectification notices, while 74 received compounding notices. Inspections also extended to bakeries, wine shops, and other small-scale food enterprises. Furthermore, authorities continued their checks on fish and meat products sold in markets, ensuring that the food safety standards were upheld across all sectors.
