KFC Sector 71, Gurgaon Faces Quality Concerns

Report

Officials from the food department announced on Tuesday that the Sector 71 branch of the popular fast food chain KFC in Gurgaon, Haryana, will receive a notice after quality tests revealed that two of its items—the long bun bread and lachha paratha—failed to meet standards. Staff at the outlet and a representative from KFC declined to comment on the inspection results as of Tuesday evening.

Customer Initiates Quality Assessment

Dr. Ramesh Chauhan, the district’s food and safety officer, explained that a customer requested a quality assessment of KFC products last month. In response, the department collected samples of the bread and paratha and sent them to a state laboratory for analysis. On January 20, the department published a report stating that the products were “unsafe” and “substandard,” according to the food and safety officer’s findings.

Show-Cause Notice and Next Steps

“The department will issue a show-cause notice to KFC this week,” the food and safety officer stated. KFC has yet to explain why it should avoid disciplinary action or legal consequences. The fast food chain can request further testing of its food products at its laboratory if it has concerns. This process must be completed within 15 days of receiving the notice,” the officer added.

Potential Financial Penalty

According to regulations, once a company receives a notice for failing food quality tests, it has the right to request additional testing at a central government laboratory. If those tests confirm that the food remains substandard, KFC will face a financial penalty.
