Ahead of the consecration of the Madurai Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department has intensified inspections to ensure safe and hygienic food for visiting pilgrims. Authorities have approved 21 organisers to distribute annadanam to around 85,000 devotees at various locations around the temple from September 15.

13 Food Safety Officers Monitor Food Establishments

The department has deployed a dedicated team of 13 food safety officers to monitor food safety around the temple. The officers will inspect restaurants, bakeries, shops and other food establishments in and around the temple premises through September 17. As part of the food safety drive, mobile food testing units have collected 76 food samples from local restaurants, food stalls and annadanam distribution points. Officials will test the samples to assess their safety and quality.

Annadanam Organisers Must Obtain Approval

Organisers planning to distribute annadanam must obtain prior approval by applying online through the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS). They can also contact the local Food Safety Department for information about food safety registration and licensing requirements.

Pilgrims Can Report Food Safety Complaints

The department has urged the public and pilgrims to report food-related complaints or safety concerns. Complaints can be submitted to the Tamil Nadu Government Food Safety Department via WhatsApp at 9444042322.
