Significant Update
Nestlé India has rejected allegations of insect infestation in Maggi noodles after the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) sought information regarding a complaint that surfaced on social media. The issue emerged when an unverified social media post claimed that a packet of Maggi noodles contained larvae. Following the complaint, FSSAI initiated a fact-finding inquiry and sought details from the company.
Company Conducts Investigation
Nestlé India stated that it immediately reviewed the matter and carried out a comprehensive investigation. The company examined reference samples from the concerned batch and products available in the market. It also sent samples to an independent laboratory that is both FSSAI-notified and NABL-accredited for testing. According to the company, the investigation found no evidence of infestation. The laboratory reportedly confirmed that the samples complied with applicable quality and food safety standards.
Nestlé India also noted that it has not yet received the product sample from the complainant for examination. “We categorically reject the allegations regarding the presence of infestation in Maggi noodles,” a company spokesperson said.
Details Submitted to FSSAI
Nestlé India has submitted a detailed response to FSSAI, including manufacturing records, quality control data, laboratory reports, and findings from its internal review. The company stated that these documents support its position that the product met the required food safety and quality parameters.
Focus on Food Safety and Consumer Confidence
Nestlé India reiterated that it follows stringent food safety and quality assurance practices across its manufacturing operations. The company said it remains transparent with regulators and will continue to cooperate with FSSAI’s inquiry. The case highlights the importance of scientific testing and timely investigations in addressing food safety concerns and maintaining consumer confidence.
