Report
On January 14, the Quaker Oats Company recalled two-pound boxes of Pearl Milling Company’s Original Pancake & Waffle Mix after discovering an undeclared milk allergen. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the recall as a Class I recall, the highest risk level.
FDA’s Recall Classification System
The FDA categorizes recalls into three levels—Class I, II, and III—to indicate potential health risks. The agency assigns a Class I recall when a product’s consumption or exposure could cause serious health consequences or death.
Product Details and Distribution
Retailers in 11 states—Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Utah, and Wisconsin—sold the affected pancake mix starting November 18, 2024. The recalled product carries the UPC 30000 65040 and a best-by date of September 13, 2025.
Previous Recalls from Quaker Oats
Due to Salmonella contamination risks in December 2023 and January 2024, Quaker Oats Company recalled more than 100 products, including Cap’N Crunch cereals and bars, granola cereals and bars, Oatmeal Squares cereal, and snack boxes.
Consumer Advisory
Consumers with milk allergies or sensitivities should not consume the product and must discard it immediately. Quaker Oats Company notified the FDA about the recall, and no other Pearl Milling Company or Quaker Oats Company products were affected.
