Report
Early Thursday in the previous week, a suspected case of food poisoning sent 31 students to Dr Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital in Nanded’s Vishnupuri area in Maharashtra. The students, who had eaten pani puri from a roadside stall the previous evening, began experiencing nausea, vomiting, and stomach discomfort between 4 and 6 a.m. They came from Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, SGGS Institute of Engineering and Technology, and a local nursing college. Hospital staff confirmed that all students remain stable and under 24-hour observation.
FDA Steps In, Samples Sent for Testing
District disaster management officer Kishor Kurhe said the Food and Drugs Administration had already collected pani puri samples from the stall and sent them for lab analysis. “We will take further action once we receive the lab report,” he added. As a bustling educational hub, Vishnupuri sees hundreds of students daily. The incident has highlighted the urgent need to improve street food safety in the area.
