The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has awarded the Eat Right Station certification to Tatanagar and Bokaro railway stations, recognizing their commitment to providing passengers with safe, hygienic, and nutritious food options. FSSAI conducted a comprehensive two-month evaluation, assessing 25 food stalls at Tatanagar and 14 at Bokaro. The evaluation focused on food safety measures, sanitation practices, and nutritional standards, including thorough inspections of eateries, food vendors, and water quality assessments.
Commitment to Passenger Health and Safety
Kamal Deo, the food safety officer at Tatanagar station, shared, “Our team has consistently worked to ensure all food vendors at the station comply with FSSAI’s stringent regulations. This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to passenger health and safety.” This certification is part of FSSAI’s broader Eat Right India initiative, launched in 2018, which aims to transform India’s food system to prioritize safety, hygiene, and nutrition.
Ongoing Monitoring and Training
Deo further emphasized, “We will conduct monthly inspections of all food establishments to uphold cleanliness and safety standards. Regular training sessions will be organized for vendors, and strict penalties will be enforced for those who violate the rules.”
Strengthening the Partnership with Indian Railways
An FSSAI representative from the eastern region commented, “The certification of these stations highlights our progress in ensuring passengers have access to safe and healthy food while travelling. It demonstrates the successful partnership between FSSAI and Indian Railways.” With this achievement, Jharkhand now boasts five certified stations, including Dhanbad, Ranchi, and Hatia.
