Telangana Considers Ban on Egg-Based Mayonnaise Amid Food Safety Concerns

Report

The Telangana government is considering a ban on egg-based mayonnaise due to rising food safety concerns. This proposed ban would remove the popular topping from restaurants and stores across the region.

Officials have linked at least ten cases of food poisoning this year to egg mayonnaise, prompting this decision. In the latest incident, four individuals from Secunderabad were hospitalized with severe diarrhoea and nausea after consuming shawarma with the dip.

Earlier in January, 17 people in Alwal suffered vomiting, fever, and diarrhoea from the same source.

Kerala Leads the Way

In 2023, Kerala became the first Indian state to ban the manufacturing and sale of mayonnaise containing raw eggs, following lab reports that found harmful microorganisms in market samples. If Telangana adopts a similar ban, egg mayonnaise will be the first food item prohibited in the state.
