Overview
To improve public access to food safety information, the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department launched two major digital initiatives on July 1, 2025. The department introduced a WhatsApp-based information service and rolled out an upgraded version of the TN Food Safety Consumer App. These efforts aim to boost transparency, streamline consumer engagement, and raise awareness about hygiene practices in the food sector across the state.
Citizens Can Now Access Food Safety Info via WhatsApp
Residents across Tamil Nadu can now receive real-time updates on food hygiene, safety regulations, and consumer rights by messaging the department’s new WhatsApp helpline at 94440 42322. The chatbot responds instantly with accurate and easy-to-understand information. This service simplifies access to food safety knowledge and empowers citizens to stay informed.
Revamped App Empowers Users to Report and Learn
The enhanced TN Food Safety Consumer App, now available on app stores, provides a direct platform for users to:
-
Lodge complaints or report food safety concerns
-
Learn best practices for food handling and storage
-
Read government circulars, blogs, and awareness materials
-
Stay updated on ongoing campaigns by the Food Safety Department
The department encourages both consumers and food business operators to actively use these digital tools. Those without access to WhatsApp or the app can email concerns to unavupukar.fsda@tn.gov.in for assistance.
