Rajasthan’s Food Safety Department foiled a major adulteration attempt just ahead of a wedding by seizing 300 kg of fake mawa in Tonk district. On Sunday, May 11, the Medical and Health Department’s food safety team raided Ashok Vihar Colony on Jhilay Road in Niwai, Tonk. Based on a tip-off, the team reached the location in advance and caught a vehicle carrying 300 kg of adulterated mawa, used in sweets and desserts. Officials confirmed the mawa was fake after testing it on the spot using a mobile food testing lab. They packed the adulterated dairy in 15 bags of 20 kg each and transported it in a pick-up van.
Officers Detain Transporter, Launch Interrogation
Food Safety Officer Satyanarayan Gurjar led the raid and confirmed that the adulterated mawa came from Chomu, near Jaipur. Authorities detained Rakesh Kumar Sharma, who was driving the van, and began questioning him to track the full supply chain. This seizure follows another major crackdown in rural Jaipur, where police and food safety teams confiscated 2,800 kg of fake cheese in the Bassi area. Officers intercepted five pick-up vans carrying the adulterated cheese at the Rajadhok toll plaza.
Officials Tighten Vigil Ahead of Festive Season
With the wedding and festive season in full swing, the Food Safety Department has ramped up surprise inspections to prevent adulterated food from reaching the public. Authorities urge citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious food handling or distribution.
