The health department of Adoor Municipality in Pathanamthitta seized large quantities of stale food from several hotels during an inspection drive, including 50 kg of stale fish from Rajadhani Hotel. Officials inspected 15 hotels along the key food hub from Adoor Bypass to Parakode and found violations at 10 establishments. The seized items included stale fish, eggs and meat, some of which had developed a foul smell.

Among the establishments where officials found violations were Rajadhani Hotel, Ammachikkada, Street Food and Dinkan’s Thattukada, Big Mouth, Central Park, Al Razi, Olappanthal, S.N. Hotel, Kumaresan Tea Shop, and Park Residency.

Hotel Association Questions Inspection Authority

The inspection drive, however, faced resistance from some hotel operators. The Hotel and Restaurant Association questioned the municipal health department’s authority to conduct the inspections. Some hotel owners reportedly confronted officials and allegedly attempted to obstruct them from carrying out their duties. Despite the resistance, municipal officials continued the inspections, covering several prominent hotels in the area.

Inspections to Continue Along Adoor Bypass

The inspection also covered establishments such as Sunrise Restaurant, where officials found no violations. Following the findings, the municipality has decided to intensify inspections along the Adoor Bypass, which has emerged as a major food hub in the district. The municipality also warned that it would approach the police against hotel owners who obstruct officials while they carry out food safety inspections.
