Introduction
Passengers on a Delta Airlines flight received “spoiled” food, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing in New York. The A330 aircraft, carrying 277 passengers, is said to have taken off from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport on Tuesday just before 11 p.m. But when it was found that some of the in-flight meals in the main cabin were ruined, it was rerouted to John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The Delta aircraft was redirected while it was over Saint Pierre and Miquelon, a French archipelago south of Canada’s Newfoundland, according to FlightRadar24 data. According to reports, the crew conferred with medical professionals before deciding to land the plane. In the meanwhile, the airline has not revealed how the contamination was found or how many of the 277 passengers ate the meal or whether any of them showed signs of food poisoning.
The incident
On July 3, at 4 a.m., the aircraft touched down at JFK safely. The New York Fire Department informed USA Today that after evaluating 12 passengers, none of them received medical care or were taken to the hospital. Delta has apologized to its customers and is looking into the event.
The statement from Delta Airlines
