Report
FSSAI officials in Mysuru have begun inspecting paying guest (PG) accommodations to assess food quality and hygiene standards. Following reports of food poisoning in Bengaluru, FSSAI Commissioner Srinivas directed inspections in Mysuru, a city known for its numerous PG accommodations. Three teams were deployed to carry out the campaign, which began on Friday and will continue until November 22.
Inspectors Check Licenses, Ingredients, and Hygiene
Inspectors are verifying FSSAI license documentation and evaluating food quality in kitchens and workspaces that provide daily meals to residents. The teams are scrutinizing vegetables, oils, and grains, as well as assessing hygiene practices and safety measures for both residents and kitchen staff. Food and ingredient samples are being collected for laboratory analysis. If violations are detected, authorities will initiate regulatory procedures, including legal action and penalties. On-site inspections also involve testing drinking water quality and examining the safety of condiments such as vinegar, sauces, and food colouring agents.
Feedback from Residents Encouraged
Throughout the weeklong initiative, inspectors are gathering feedback from PG residents, including students and professionals, regarding food quality, cleanliness, and safety protocols. Written complaints are also being encouraged. Ravindra, the designated officer for FSSAI at Mysuru City Corporation, confirmed that inspections are underway. Early findings reveal that many PG accommodations lack the required FSSAI license or MCC registration.
Indira Canteens Also Under Food Safety Scanner
Additionally, the department is inspecting all 14 Indira Canteens within the city limits, analyzing food quality and collecting daily samples for laboratory testing. M. Narayanagowda, president of the Mysuru District Hotel Owners’ Association, praised the FSSAI initiative. He stated that these inspections ensure high-quality food service and protect the health of residents during their stay.
