A video that has crossed 2 million views on Instagram has sparked food safety concerns after a Zepto customer claimed she found dead ants in Maggi noodles ordered from Zepto Cafe, the company’s quick-service food delivery platform.
Dead Ants Found in Maggi Noodles
The video shows four bowls of Maggi noodles, with one bowl empty and the others containing leftovers. As the camera zooms in, several dead ants appear at the bottom of the bowls. The customer criticised Zepto over the incident and raised concerns about food hygiene and safety at its cafe operations.
Zepto responded through its official Instagram account, expressed regret over the incident and asked the customer to share her order details so the company could investigate the matter. The customer later confirmed that Zepto had issued a refund. However, she said the refund did not address her concerns about the food already consumed and questioned the company’s hygiene standards.
FDA Inspects Zepto Warehouse
The incident comes amid recent food safety concerns involving Zepto. Following the viral video, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspected Zepto’s Dharavi warehouse in Mumbai and found several violations, including:
- Fungal growth on food items
- Expired products
- Unhygienic storage conditions
The FDA subsequently suspended the food business licence of Zepto’s Dharavi warehouse, citing serious non-compliance.
