Key Update
Acting on multiple public complaints, the Food Safety Wing conducted surprise inspections at 25 Pista House outlets across Greater Hyderabad on Tuesday. Inspectors found unhygienic conditions at most premises and collected 23 food samples under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and its Rules and Regulations, 2011.
Widespread Hygiene and Storage Lapses
The inspection teams at Pista House outlets reported wet, slippery kitchen floors, unhygienic washing areas with stagnant water, uncovered dustbins, drains without traps, and patchy walls with broken tiles. They also noted oily, unclean chimneys, housefly infestations, and kitchen openings without mesh covers. Food safety officers found food stored directly on the floor, food and non-food items kept together, racks pushed against walls, and storage areas with inadequate lighting. Cold room temperature records were missing, and refrigerators showed poor cleaning.
Next Steps After Inspection
This special drive targeted Pista House outlets exclusively. Officials have sent the collected samples for lab analysis. The reports will be submitted to zonal commissioners for issuing notices and taking further action.
