With Onam driving a surge in milk demand, the Kerala government has intensified border inspections to block adulterated milk from entering the state. The Dairy Development and Food Safety Departments are jointly enforcing strict quality checks at major entry points. Milk arrivals have nearly doubled in the lead-up to Onam, raising concerns about possible adulteration, particularly with harmful substances like urea. In response, authorities are testing samples for fat content and chemical contaminants, clearing only those consignments that meet safety standards.
Round-the-Clock Checks at Key Border Points
Joint inspection teams stationed at checkpoints — including Parassala, Aryankavu, Walayar, and Meenakshipuram — are conducting 24/7 monitoring through Thiruvonam eve. So far, no contaminated samples have been detected. Officials credit strict surveillance for maintaining milk quality and assure the public that safety remains a top priority this festive season.
