Key Development
Kozhikode district has reported a noticeable increase in acute diarrhoeal disease (ADD) cases over the past week, prompting authorities to emphasise the importance of food and water safety. Health officials link the rise to consumption of contaminated water, fungal infections, and foodborne illnesses.
According to the Health Department’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, 178 ADD cases were recorded on September 23, compared to 129 cases on September 22 and 200 cases on September 19. Common symptoms include loose stools, vomiting, fever, and abdominal pain, with severe cases potentially causing dehydration.
Authorities Advise Safe Food and Water Practices
Officials are urging residents to adopt strict food and water hygiene measures. Boiling or treating drinking water, washing hands before handling food, and avoiding food from unhygienic outlets are strongly recommended. Authorities also advise reporting suspected cases of foodborne illness to local health departments promptly.
Monitoring and Preventive Measures Underway
The Kozhikode district administration is closely monitoring the situation and conducting inspections to prevent further spread of foodborne diseases. Health workers continue to educate the public on safe food handling and proper sanitation practices to protect community health.
