Authorities have launched a new Food Street at Kottakkunnu in Malappuram in Kerala to boost the food and tourism sectors in the Malabar region. The initiative aims to generate employment for local entrepreneurs and service staff while offering visitors safe and hygienic dining options.
Multiple Agencies Join Hands
The project is a joint effort of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), National Health Mission (NHM), the Food Safety Department, and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC). Officials have set up 12 food stalls with dedicated dining areas, proper waste management systems, security arrangements, and other essential facilities. The government has invested ₹1 crore in the project.
Minister Highlights Kerala’s Food Safety Leadership
Kerala Health Minister Veena George inaugurated the Food Street. She said Kerala leads the country in maintaining food safety standards and ensuring strict compliance with regulations. MLA P. Ubaidulla chaired the function. The District Collector, senior health officials and representatives from FSSAI, NHM and DTPC were present.
