Dead Poultry, Dirty Practices: Assam Meat Shops Face Crackdown

Food Safety officials, along with the district police, District Veterinary Office, Pathsala Municipal Board, and Legal Metrology Department, conducted a joint inspection at meat shops in Pathsala market, Bajali, Assam, and uncovered multiple hygiene and safety violations. The teams inspected several outlets for compliance with food safety regulations and seized seven domestic LPG cylinders from two shops, flagging their illegal use for commercial purposes.

Sick and Dead Poultry Found

Inspectors reported serious lapses, including the presence of sick and dead chickens at some outlets. Authorities flagged poor hygiene practices and noted that several vendors failed to maintain basic sanitation standards while handling and selling poultry. The department has warned of strict action against violators and stated that similar inspection drives will continue to ensure compliance and safeguard public health.
