Ranchi Deploys Mobile Food Labs Against Unsafe Street Food

Key Update

Ranchi’s food safety wing will launch a special inspection drive targeting roadside eateries and street food stalls across the city using mobile food labs or testing laboratory vans. Officials said the campaign will focus on contaminated water, stale ingredients, uncovered food, and unsafe storage practices that commonly trigger food-borne illnesses during the summer season.

Authorities to Cover Markets, School Zones, and Food Hubs

The inspection drive will cover busy roadside food hubs, market areas, school zones, and evening snack clusters where vendors sell chaats, juices, cut fruits, fried snacks, and cooked meals in the open. Food safety teams will conduct spot testing of water, edible oil, spices, milk products, and prepared food items using mobile laboratory facilities.

Summer Heat Increases Risk of Food Spoilage

Ranchi Food Safety Officer Pawan Kumar said officials conduct regular checks on street food vendors throughout the year, but intensify inspections during summer because food spoils faster in high temperatures. He added that authorities will deploy mobile food testing laboratory vans in different parts of the city from next week as part of the intensified monitoring drive.
