Giridih Tragedy: Child Dies, 18 Hospitalised After Eating Street Food

Significant Update

A tragic case of suspected food poisoning has claimed the life of a seven-year-old child and left 18 others hospitalised in Jharkhand’s Giridih district. The incident occurred in Leda Bajto village under the Mufassil police station limits after villagers consumed street food from a local vendor. A golgappa and chaat cart had been set up on Saturday evening, attracting several residents, including women and children. Within hours of consuming the food, multiple people began experiencing symptoms of illness late that night. By Sunday morning, over 20 individuals were rushed to Sadar Hospital for urgent treatment.

Child Dies, Others Under Treatment

Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jeetwahan Oraon confirmed the fatality and hospitalisations, stating, “A seven-year-old child died, and 18 others are undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital after they suffered food poisoning.” Medical officials suspect contaminated food as the cause. The civil surgeon noted that patients admitted to the hospital displayed symptoms consistent with foodborne illness.

Investigation Underway, Vendor Missing

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact source of contamination. Police teams are also searching for the street food vendor, who is currently untraceable. Meanwhile, officials have confirmed that the condition of the remaining patients is stable as treatment continues at Sadar Hospital.
