Substandard Food Items Found in Una District, Himachal Pradesh
Concerns over food safety have intensified in Una district, Himachal Pradesh after substandard items were uncovered during routine inspections. Samples of ‘golgappa’ water, mustard oil, and ready-to-serve coffee, collected from local vendors, failed to meet safety standards. Laboratory tests conducted in Kandaghat, Solan, confirmed the presence of prohibited colouring agents in the golgappa water, a clear breach of food safety regulations.
Investigations Highlight Food Quality Violations
Jagdish Dhiman, Assistant Director of the Food Standards and Safety Wing, emphasized the seriousness of the findings. Flavoured water served with golgappas, a favourite street food, was identified as being of poor quality. Meanwhile, mustard oil samples were deemed misbranded due to adulteration, and the ready-to-serve coffee was found to be substandard. Authorities have assured the public that corrective actions are underway, including legal steps against violators.
Authorities Strengthen Market Oversight
In response to these findings, the Health Department has been tasked with enforcing stricter quality controls across markets. Officials aim to ensure that only safe and compliant food products are sold. Increased market surveillance is also planned to prevent future violations and uphold public health standards.
This incident highlights the urgent need for stringent food safety measures to protect consumers and maintain trust in local markets.
