Zepto Dark Store Among Hyderabad Outlets Facing Food Safety Action

Key Update

The Hyderabad Food Administration and Safety Task Force (H-FAST) has taken action against multiple food businesses after uncovering serious food safety and hygiene violations during inspections conducted on June 29 and 30.

The enforcement drive targeted a Zepto dark store in Mallepally, a paratha manufacturing unit in Tadban, and a chicken outlet in Secunderabad. Officials detected pest infestations, unhygienic food handling practices, advance-dated food packets, and rotten chicken, leading to cases under food safety and municipal regulations.

Zepto Dark Store Found Infested with Cockroaches and Rodents

A team led by H-FAST Sub-Inspector V. Akhil inspected a Zepto dark store in Mallepally on June 30. During the inspection, officials found evidence of cockroach and rodent infestation inside the premises, raising serious concerns about sanitation and food storage practices. The case has been referred to Food Safety Officer Sameena Begum of the Hyderabad Medical Circle for action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Authorities are expected to initiate legal proceedings based on the violations identified.

Paratha Manufacturing Unit Pulled Up for Poor Hygiene

In another operation on June 29, H-FAST Sub-Inspector P. Krishnaiah and Food Safety Officer Soumya Reddy inspected a paratha manufacturing unit in Tadban. The inspection revealed unhygienic food preparation conditions and poor food handling practices. Officials also found food packets carrying advance-dated packaging. The team seized the products and handed the case over to Bahadurpura Police for further investigation and legal action.

Rotten Chicken Seized from Secunderabad Outlet

On June 30, H-FAST Sub-Inspector P. Abhilash, accompanied by GHMC Veterinary Doctor Dr Vasu, inspected Eagle Fisheries in Secunderabad. Officials found rotten chicken stored for sale at the outlet. They apprehended the person responsible, transferred the case to the GHMC Veterinary Department for further action, and imposed a ₹3,000 fine on the establishment.

Authorities Warn Food Businesses

H-FAST said the inspections are part of its ongoing enforcement drive to strengthen food hygiene and consumer safety across Hyderabad. Officials warned that food business operators who violate food safety regulations will face strict legal action under the applicable laws. The latest inspections highlight the importance of maintaining proper hygiene, preventing pest infestations, storing food safely, and complying with food safety regulations to protect public health.
