Key Update
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued more than 150 notices to food companies in recent months over misleading advertisements, false claims and labelling non-compliance. The regulator shared the update on its recent enforcement actions through a social media post, highlighting action against several major food and beverage brands.
Major Food Brands Face FSSAI Action
FSSAI has taken action against companies including Nestlé India, PepsiCo, Abbott India, Red Bull India, Danone India, Monster Energy India, Hell Energy, Mondelez India, Coca-Cola India, Diageo, Pernod Ricard, Ferrero India and Kenvue. The regulator said it has also seized products from several companies for violating food safety laws and regulations, including energy drinks and alcoholic beverages manufacturers.
E-commerce Warehouses Also Under Scrutiny
FSSAI has issued 12 notices to e-commerce companies, including Amazon and Flipkart, and cancelled the licence of one Amazon warehouse over violations. It has also issued more than 30 notices to food service establishments, including KFC, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Costa Coffee, and suspended five Domino’s licences.
The authority also issued notices to several five-star hotels last year. Several companies have since taken corrective action following the notices.
