Customer Finds Snail in Online Food Order; Authorities Shut Paravur Hotel

Key Update

The Food Safety Department and municipal health officials closed a Paravur restaurant in Ernakulam district after a customer reported finding a snail in an egg roast ordered through an online food delivery platform.

Customer Reports Snail in Egg Roast

A customer from Parayakad ordered an egg roast online from Chai Peedika, a restaurant on Fort Road near the Limited Stop Bus Stand in Paravur, and reported finding a cooked snail while eating the dish. The customer submitted photographs of the food along with the purchase bill to the Food Safety Department.

Authorities Identify Hygiene Lapses

After receiving the complaint, the Food Safety Department and the municipal health department jointly inspected the restaurant. During the inspection, officials reportedly found poor hygiene and sanitation practices and issued a closure notice to the establishment. Although the municipality did not receive a formal complaint, municipal authorities said they initiated the inspection after the incident came to their attention through social media.

Restaurant Rejects Allegation

The restaurant owners denied the allegation, stating that they had recently dismissed an employee and suggesting that the complaint may have been filed in retaliation. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to verify the complaint and determine whether further regulatory action is necessary.
