An unsettling incident in Bengaluru has raised widespread concerns about food safety in cloud kitchens. A customer who ordered from FreshMenu—a popular cloud kitchen known for offering nutritious meals—found a live worm in one of his food packages. The discovery, which he shared in a viral video, quickly gained attention and led to significant criticism of the company.

The Shocking Discovery

The incident unfolded when the customer placed an order with FreshMenu via Zomato. Upon receiving the food, he opened one of the boxes to find a live worm wriggling inside. Distressed by the discovery, the customer filmed the incident and posted the video online, drawing attention to the alarming situation. He also raised concerns about the order, mentioning that Zomato had been notified to look into the issue. Additionally, the customer pointed out a discrepancy on the receipt, which listed four items instead of the three he had ordered.

FreshMenu’s Response and Apology

After the viral video, FreshMenu issued a public apology and explained the situation. The cloud kitchen admitted that the incident resulted from a “human mistake.”

Proud of its use of 100% natural ingredients, FreshMenu clarified that this was an isolated occurrence. “At FreshMenu, we use entirely natural ingredients to prepare fresh and nutritious meals,” the company stated. “Although we have always exercised great care in food preparation, a human error led to this unfortunate incident.”

Upon learning about the issue, FreshMenu acted swiftly, sending a team to personally visit the customer, apologize, and address his concerns. The company also assured the public that it had taken disciplinary action against the staff involved and promised to implement additional precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Social Media Backlash

Despite the company’s apology, the incident sparked a wave of backlash on social media. Many users shared their own negative experiences with FreshMenu. One user wrote, “I’ve gotten sick multiple times after eating from FreshMenu. I suspect they price their food so low for a reason.” Another expressed stronger dissatisfaction, saying, “FreshMenu should be banned… all their outlets operate under different names. Total fraud, poor food quality, and insufficient portions.”

These comments reflect a growing distrust of cloud kitchens, especially those offering low-cost meal options, as many customers worry about the quality and safety of the food they receive.

This incident brings to light increasing concerns about food safety in cloud kitchens. As more people rely on delivery-only services, issues of cleanliness, quality control, and food safety are becoming more prominent. While cloud kitchens offer the convenience of home delivery, customers often have little insight into how their food is prepared or whether it meets basic safety standards. This lack of transparency is fueling scepticism and raising questions about the overall safety of cloud kitchens.
