Food Safety Crack Down in Punjab Amid Dog Meat Rumors

Report

After reports surfaced about food department officers allegedly discovering “a dog’s severed head in the refrigerator of a momos and spring roll factory” in Mohali, Punjab, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal clarified that claims of dog meat usage were misleading. A health department inspection confirmed that the tested meat sample did not belong to a dog. “Animal husbandry experts are conducting further analysis to determine the exact source of the meat,” Mittal stated, urging the public to avoid spreading misinformation.

Authorities Intensify Food Safety Raids

Highlighting the serious issue of unsanitary food preparation, Mittal warned that anyone compromising public health through unsafe food practices would face strict action. On Sunday, teams from the Food Safety Department, Health Department, and Municipal Corporation conducted raids in the Matour area in Mohali. Officials collected multiple food samples, including vegetables and other products, for laboratory testing.

Legal Action Against Violators

Mittal announced that authorities had registered an FIR against those responsible for the hazardous food conditions. “Severe legal measures will be enforced against those endangering public health,” she warned. SSP Deepak Pareek confirmed that police filed an FIR under Sections 272 (malicious act likely to spread a dangerous disease) and 274 (contamination of food or drink meant for sale) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) due to gross negligence.
