Health officials have taken strict action against food safety violations in Peruvallur, Malappuram, filing cases against two shops for selling preserved food without proper hygiene. Junior Health Inspectors Liju Ignatius and A. Anushree led the inspection, adding two new cases to the existing three. Officials will submit charge sheets for the latest cases tomorrow, while the Parappanangadi First Class Magistrate Court will announce its verdict on the earlier cases on April 3. Health officials confirmed that they have issued notices to the involved parties.

Amid rising jaundice cases, health department officials have intensified inspections at food establishments. They issued notices to two shop owners who failed to maintain hygiene standards while selling food. Officials also fined a street vendor ₹400 for not displaying a board as required under the Central Tobacco Control Act.
Special Squad Cracks Down on Unhygienic Food Practices
A special squad, formed to prevent communicable diseases, has expanded its inspections, including nighttime raids. Public Health Officer Dr. M.V. Fousiya is leading this team, which includes officials from the panchayat, health department, Ayurveda department, homeopathy, food safety, animal husbandry, and agriculture departments. Officials have conducted public health awareness campaigns across the panchayat, using mobile message vehicles to educate residents about food safety and hygiene standards.
Advance Notice Required for Public Feasts and Iftar Gatherings
Authorities have mandated that organizers of public feasts and Iftar gatherings must provide at least three days’ notice. Panchayat President K. Abdul Kalam, Public Health Officer Dr. M.V. Fousiya, Panchayat Secretary A.K. Rajesh, and Assistant Surgeon Dr. Muhammad Rasi emphasized that this measure will help prevent waterborne disease outbreaks.
