Report
The Municipality Health Department in Malappuram inspected major hotels and food outlets yesterday, focusing on hygiene standards. The inspections, carried out from 6:00 AM to 8:30 AM, targeted establishments along Kavungal Bypass and Perinthalmanna Road. Officials seized and destroyed various unhygienic food items stored for sale.
Notices Issued for Violations
Inspectors checked eight establishments and issued notices to five for failing to meet hygiene standards. Authorities warned that unsatisfactory responses to the notices would lead to further action. Officials seized porotta, chapati, fish, and meat stored in unhygienic conditions. They also confiscated leftover food from the previous day, expired dairy products, and items improperly stored in freezers without lids or stacked carelessly.
Kitchen Standards and Waste Management
Inspectors found substandard kitchen conditions in several outlets, where waste materials were stored within the kitchen. They also discovered that some establishments were burning waste, including plastics, in their stoves.
Authorities Promise Strict Action
Authorities announced plans to cancel licenses and shut down establishments violating hygiene norms. They also pledged strict measures against those irresponsibly dumping waste and selling banned tobacco products. City Manager K. Madhusoodanan led the inspection team, joined by Public Health Inspectors Anukool and Abdul Rasheed, along with sanitation staff from the Municipality.
