The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA), Uttar Pradesh, has destroyed nearly 8,600 litres of expired food products worth approximately ₹2.32 lakh after uncovering a large stockpile at a manufacturing unit in Kanpur. During a surprise inspection conducted on June 15 at Vishal Bharat Industries in Jajmau, officials discovered a substantial quantity of expired syrups, crushes, sharbats, and sauces stored inside the premises. The unit is operated by food business operator Tauqir Kamal Ansari.
According to officials, individuals present at the facility fled during the inspection. In response, the FSDA team immediately sealed the manufacturing unit to prevent any further movement or distribution of the expired products.
Samples Collected, Pickles Seized
As part of the enforcement action, officials collected multiple samples of sauces and pickles for laboratory analysis. On June 17, the department seized approximately 198 kilograms of pickles and collected two pickle samples in the presence of the food business operator’s representative. Authorities also collected three sauce samples for detailed testing.
Expired Products Destroyed Under Supervision
Following the completion of required procedures, the FSDA destroyed the seized expired food products on June 19, 2026, at the municipal corporation’s dumping ground in Bhauti under official supervision. The destroyed stock comprised nearly 8,600 litres of contaminated and expired food items.
Crackdown on Unsafe Food Continues
The Food Safety Department stated that it will continue taking strict action against the manufacture, storage, and sale of adulterated, substandard, and expired food products. The department reiterated its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring food businesses comply with food safety regulations.
