KFC Outlet in Kondapur Pulled Up for Unsafe Cooking Oil

Key Update

Food safety officials conducted a random inspection at a KFC outlet in Rajarajeshwari Colony, Kondapur, in Hyderabad on Monday. The Food Safety Officer (FSO) team, along with officials from the Serilingampally zone of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, conducted a check to assess compliance with food safety standards.  During the inspection, the team found that the Total Polar Compounds (TPC) levels in the cooking oil exceeded the permissible limits. Authorities use TPC as a key indicator of oil degradation, and higher values clearly indicate repeated or prolonged use of the same oil.

Team Observes Visible Oil Degradation

Inspectors also noticed dark discolouration in the cooking oil, which signalled deterioration. These visible changes raised immediate concerns about the safety and quality of the food prepared using the oil. Zonal Commissioner Narayan Amit Malempati led the inspection and confirmed that officials have initiated action against the outlet under relevant food safety regulations. He emphasised that authorities will take strict measures when establishments fail to follow safety norms.

Why It Matters

Food safety experts stress that businesses must regularly monitor TPC levels to ensure safe cooking practices. When establishments reuse degraded oil, they increase the risk of harmful compounds forming, which can affect consumer health.
