In response to reports of epidemic outbreaks in various parts of the district, a public health committee convened in Kochi on Thursday and resolved to strengthen inspections. Health officials confirmed that the committee will rigorously enforce public health regulations to improve epidemic prevention and management. District Panchayat President Manoj Moothedan emphasized that alongside awareness initiatives on hepatitis A and dengue, authorities will strictly implement public health measures.
Enhanced Monitoring of Water and Food Safety
District Collector NSK Umesh assured that inspections will intensify through coordinated efforts with the police, food safety, and local self-government departments. Officials will closely monitor drinking water tankers, food distribution by hotels and catering services, and chlorination of drinking water sources to prevent contamination. District Medical Officer Dr. Asha Devi reported that authorities shut down three facilities and initiated legal action against two more under the Public Health Act.
Hepatitis A Cases Surge in Industrial Areas
The committee observed a rise in hepatitis A cases in industrial facilities, hostels, and apartment complexes in Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, and Eloor, while dengue cases showed a decline compared to the previous month.
