MCA Stadium Enhances Food & Water Safety for T20 Amid GBS Outbreak

Report

Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium officials are tightening food and water safety measures for the T20 match between India and England on Friday in Pune, following a GBS outbreak in parts of the city. The state government has issued new guidelines to ensure public health and safety. Santosh Bobde, honorary joint secretary of MCA, said, “We are following the state government’s directives to enhance safety standards.”

Ensuring Safe Drinking Water

The stadium accommodates 37,000 spectators and provides free drinking water through filtration stations at each stand, as bottled water remains prohibited in the galleries. Plastic cups are available near these stations for convenience. Bobde explained that the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation supplies the drinking water, which undergoes three stages of filtration and testing before distribution. “We have maintained this procedure for years, but we are taking extra precautions due to the GBS outbreak. We have also instructed food vendors to follow stricter hygiene standards,” he added. A senior MCA official confirmed that “the stadium filters water used in restrooms and on the ground as well.”

Addressing Previous Criticism

During the India vs. New Zealand Test match last October, MCA faced backlash for inadequate drinking water facilities. Responding to the concerns, the MCA secretary said, “We have acted on feedback from the previous game and introduced measures to prevent delays in water distribution. We will ensure sufficient drinking water is easily accessible throughout the venue.”
