Mysuru Trains Street Food Vendors on Hygiene and Safety

Report

Street food plays a vital role for travellers who seek authentic local experiences during their visit. To ensure that tourists enjoy safe and hygienic food while relying on street food, the Department of Tourism in Mysuru conducted a two-day training session for street food vendors and dhaba operators. The training, which focused on food safety and hygiene practices, concluded on Friday, and vendors received certificates for their participation in this specialized program.

Emphasizing Hygiene and Hospitality

The training emphasized the importance of maintaining food hygiene and taught vendors how to improve their services to tourists. Vendors were reminded that their interactions with tourists contribute to the overall experience, and they were encouraged to embrace the principle of “atithi devo bhava” in their hospitality.

Promoting Sustainability and Food Safety

In addition to hygiene practices, the training encouraged vendors to reduce plastic usage and adopt environmentally friendly business practices, including better solid waste management. They also learned techniques for food preparation and safety precautions to ensure a high standard of service.

Enhancing Tourist Experience

Joint Director of Tourism M.K. Savita highlighted the importance of the street food scene in attracting tourists to the State. “Through this training, we aim to offer tourists safe and hygienic food while further improving the organization of these services,” she said. A total of 48 street food vendors and dhaba operators participated in the training, gaining valuable knowledge to enhance their offerings and ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for tourists.
