Key Update
The Food Safety and Quality Centre (FSQC) in Oman has issued a final reminder and set April 22, 2026, as the enforcement date for mandatory certification requirements on selected food imports. Under the revised rules, Oman will allow bottled drinking water, farmed fish, and canned fish only when the producing facilities obtain certification from the relevant authorities in their country of origin.
Strengthening the Food Safety System
FSQC applies this regulation to all importers and trading entities in Oman as part of its efforts to strengthen the national food safety framework and protect consumer health. The authority has introduced the measure under the Food Safety Law issued through Royal Decree No. 84/2008 to enhance oversight of food import operations. FSQC has also granted importers a six-month grace period to comply with the new certification requirements and update their documentation.
Advisory to Importers
FSQC has urged businesses to complete compliance procedures without delay to avoid disruptions in imports. It has also stressed that importers must verify supplier certification before finalising contracts to prevent non-compliance and financial risks.
