More than 50 people, including women and children, from the Jahangirabad region in Bulandshahr district, Meerut of Uttarpradeesh went to the hospital on Tuesday after suffering food poisoning from a wedding banquet. Authorities confirmed that four individuals remain in critical condition and that medical staff transferred them to the district hospital in Bulandshahr for further care. The affected individuals, all from Ramgarhi village in Jahangirabad, attended a wedding in the Siyana region on Monday night.
Symptoms Appear After the Meal
Following the wedding meal, the individuals began experiencing nausea and vomiting the next morning. Local health officials quickly set up a camp in the village to start treatment. Manju Agarwal, Acting Chief Medical Officer in Bulandshahr, reported that medical staff transferred the affected individuals to a nearby CHC, hospitalized 21, and referred four to higher medical facilities.
Spoiled Food Identified as the Likely Cause
Anil Kumar, a resident, noticed that the paneer and gajar halwa looked spoiled and advised others to avoid eating them. He said, “Most of the sick individuals ate the paneer and gajar halwa.”
Investigation Underway
Munendra Singh, the Food and Safety Inspector, confirmed that his team collected food samples for testing. “We suspect that the wedding food was either spoiled or contaminated,” Singh said. “We are continuing the investigation.”
