Over 750 kg of adulterated Fennel Seeds Seized Ahead of Festivities in Indore

Report

In a significant operation ahead of the festive season in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, food safety officers seized 750 kg of spurious fennel seeds (saunf) suspected to contain harmful colour additives on Thursday. Inspectors confiscated the fennel, reportedly imported from Unjha, Gujarat, during a surprise inspection at Mahalaxmi Traders in Siyaganj.

Officials valued the seized stock at Rs 97,500 and sent it for testing to determine its safety and compliance with food standards. This action supports a broader crackdown on the district’s substandard and unsafe food products.

As the demand for items like milk, sweets, namkeen, oil, and spices increases during the festival season, additional collector Gaurav Benal, under the direction of collector Asheesh Singh, formed three teams of food safety officers to conduct intensive inspections of food manufacturing, sales, and transportation across Indore.
