Report
On Tuesday night, postgraduate students at Osmania University in Hyderabad staged a protest after a student found a razor blade in a meal served at one of the campus hostels. Outraged students claimed that foreign objects in their food had become a recurring issue. The incident occurred during dinner at the New Godavari Hostel when an Economics Department student discovered the razor blade in the tomato curry.
Students Demand Accountability
“A student from the Economics Department found a blade in the tomato curry at New Godavari Hostel during dinner last night,” said Bushipaka Ajith, a second-year MA Public Administration student. He added that when students questioned the hostel staff about the blade, they failed to respond satisfactorily. Students blamed the repeated incidents on the negligence of hostel staff and university administration.
“Despite our repeated complaints, hostel conditions remain unchanged. The staff failed to maintain even basic hygiene in the kitchen and mess, leading to frequent instances of worms or foreign objects in the food. The overall food quality is also terrible,” said Punna Manikumar, a second-year MA Philosophy student.
Mass Protest Forces University Response
Around 300 hostel residents participated in the protest until 11 pm. The students demanded immediate action against those responsible for food safety. The protest ended after university authorities assured students that they would form a committee to investigate the issue and implement necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
