Rs 14 Lakh Worth of Food Confiscated from Telangana Bakery

Outdated and Unlabeled Products Seized

On January 8, 2025, the Telangana food safety department inspected Heemankshi Bakers Pvt Ltd in Mekaguda Village, Ranga Reddy district, and uncovered multiple food safety violations. The authorities seized food products valued at Rs. 14,29,600, including expired ingredients such as Cake Gel, Hydrogenated Vegetable Fat, Milk Powder, Tapioca Starch, Modified Starch, and Maltodextrin. Some of these products had expired as early as 2022. The authorities also confiscated 875 kilograms of unlabeled cocoa powder and 165 kilograms of unlabeled liquid GMS (Glycerol Monostearate).

Numerous Food Safety Issues Found

The inspection team identified several food safety issues at the bakery. They found that the production unit lacked proper drainage systems, and food waste scattered across the premises. Food handlers worked without necessary protective gear, such as aprons, gloves, and shoe covers. The team also observed stains from paan masala spit throughout the area.  The bakery discarded food items carelessly on the floor instead of placing them on pallets, and the team found insect infestations on some packaged food items in storage. Additionally, the task force discovered that the bakery stored creams and other production ingredients in unsanitary plastic containers, many of which lacked use-by dates.
