Saudi Arabia Bans Maragatty Chicken Stock Over Toxic Dyes

Report

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) warns against using the Maragatty brand chicken stock imported from Egypt and has consequently ordered its withdrawal from the market. Authorities issued this warning after detecting banned artificial colourants in the product, which pose serious health risks. Specifically, the warning applies to 480-gram Maragatty Chicken Stock packets with an expiration date of November 1, 2026.

Detection of Harmful Artificial Colorants

Following laboratory tests, officials confirmed the presence of synthetic dyes such as Dimethyl Yellow, Sudan-1, and Sudan-4 in these packets. Since these artificial colourants pose severe health risks, authorities had previously banned them in the country. As a result, the SFDA instructs consumers to avoid using the Maragatty Chicken Stock product and to dispose of it immediately. Furthermore, authorities have launched urgent measures to remove the product from the market and have also initiated legal action against the importing company responsible.

Strict Penalties for Food Law Violations

In light of this incident, authorities have reminded businesses and consumers that violations of food safety regulations can lead to severe consequences. Offenders may face fines of up to 10 million Saudi Riyals, a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, or both. Therefore, the SFDA has strongly urged the public to report any food law violations by promptly contacting their Unified Contact Center for immediate action.
