Thunchath Ezhuthachan University, Kerala, Shuts Down After Food Poisoning

Report

Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University in Tirur of Malappuram district, Kerala has closed its campus following a food poisoning incident among students. Several students in the women’s hostel became affected after consuming food from the campus canteen. In response, the university took immediate action to shut down the campus until further notice. The Registrar in Charge confirmed that all undergraduate, postgraduate, and research classes will remain suspended until further instructions.

Food Safety Concerns Prompt Action

Authorities based the closure on the Food Safety Department’s inspection report, which revealed that the campus, including the canteens, was operating without a valid food safety license. The university is now working to obtain the necessary permits before reopening its facilities.

Swift Action to Ensure Student Safety

The Registrar of the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University has instructed all students to vacate the women’s hostel immediately. This decision followed reports of students falling ill after consuming food from the hostel canteen. Investigations have also revealed that both campus canteens were operating without the required licenses. The university is currently addressing these violations.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Measures

The university acted on the advice of the health department of Vettom Panchayat, where it is located. The authorities are conducting further investigations to ensure food safety standards are met and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
