Report
The Upa-Lokayukta of Andhra Pradesh, P. Rajani, has instructed the Commissioner of Food Safety to carry out unannounced inspections of milk dairies, chilling facilities, and suppliers at least once per quarter. This directive, in line with the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSAI), 2006, aims to combat milk adulteration issues reported across the State.
Long-Term Approach to Food Safety
Ms. Rajani stressed that conducting special, one-off drives would not adequately address the problem. She emphasized the need for ongoing inspections as a long-term strategy to protect public health and maintain consistent food safety.
Monthly Testing and Stronger Enforcement
Ms. Rajani also ordered monthly milk sample analyses in all districts, requiring authorities to publish the results. She called for more stringent enforcement of penalties under Sections 50–63 of the FSSA against offenders. Additionally, she mandated biannual training for food safety officers on advanced adulteration detection methods and instructed districts to submit quarterly compliance reports.
