Worm Found in Chicken Biryani: Kozhikode Hotel Temporarily Shut

Complaint Triggers Food Safety Inspection

The Food Safety Department, Kunnamangalam Health Department and Kunnamangalam Police have temporarily shut Paradise Hotel in Muriyanala, Kunnamangalam, Kozhikode, after a complaint about a worm reportedly found in chicken biryani. Customers who visited the hotel for a meal last night reportedly found the worm in the biryani and alerted the authorities. Following the complaint, officials conducted a joint inspection at the hotel.

Officials Find Stale Chicken and Fish

During the inspection, authorities found stale chicken, fish and other food items that were unfit for consumption. Officials seized and destroyed the stale food products found at the premises. The inspection also identified licensing and employee health compliance issues. The hotel had not renewed its licence, while not all food handlers had valid health cards.

Samples Sent for Testing

As part of the inspection, authorities collected food samples and sent them for laboratory testing. Officials are also taking further action concerning food quality, hygiene and compliance at the hotel. The incident highlights the importance of maintaining proper food storage, hygiene, licensing and food-handler health requirements in food establishments.
